The 2021 Irrigation Association Innovator of the Year: Lindsay’s Reece Andrews

The Irrigation Association’s Innovator Award is designed to recognize individuals who have made significant, innovative contributions to the irrigation and water management industries.

Past award recipients have come from all corners of the industry, and in 2021, we’re thrilled to say the winner is one of Lindsay’s own: Reece Andrews.

Andrews has spent 24 years as a product manager for Lindsay. He has overseen creation of numerous industry-advancing technologies during his tenure, resulting in solutions that tangibly support growers in improving the health of their crops, while conserving natural resources and driving long-term sustainability. Most recently, Andrews led the team at Lindsay to create the industry’s first ultra-low cost, universal pivot monitoring solution, FieldNET™ Pivot Watch™, which won the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineer’s AE50 Award in 2020.

Reece’s cutting-edge work is impossible to miss, as proven by glowing nominations from peers, dealers and customers. He spoke about being grateful for the recognition and noted his intention to drive further innovation.

“I am honored to be named the 2021 Innovator Award recipient,” Andrews said, on being notified of the recognition. “It has been a privilege to support growers around the world through my work with the team at Lindsay. Our culture of customer-first innovation provides the foundation for excellence in everything we do. I look forward to continuing to drive ground-breaking advancements in our industry for years to come.”

This is not the first industry recognition for Andrews: he has led development of several award-winning products and holds a number of patents for his designs. The Irrigation Association itself has previously recognized Andrews’ achievements with New Product Awards for the launch of FieldNET remote irrigation management technology in 2007 and FieldNET Multi-Control for drip- and micro-irrigation technology in 2014.

Lindsay’s FieldNET technology products are expected to help growers save over 700 billion gallons of water and more than one billion kilowatt hours of energy by 2022, and Reece’s efforts have played no small role in this achievement.
