Radial Tires Power Center Pivots Through Tough Terrain

With center pivot irrigation, brothers Michael and Jeremy Yoder are able to increase efficiency, conserve water and boost production in a normally dry area in southeastern Colorado.

“I’m able to get water to the whole farm faster,” he said. “We have stabilization ponds that we pull water from, so the efficiency of irrigation was really appealing.”

Yoder’s family operation includes more than 1,300 acres of corn, pinto beans, wheat and alfalfa. While irrigation is necessary for optimal production, irrigation canal seepage creates challenges by creating swampy areas in some of the fields.

A high-performance alternative to standard bias ply tire options, radial tires offer:

  • Sixty percent more footprint than 11.2” x 38” bias ply tires
  • Wider, stronger tread face and durable side wall
  • Low air pressure for less compaction and rutting (-15 psi, 1.03 bar)
  • Heavy load rating, even at lower pressure
  • Available in popular sizes, no tube needed
  • Eight-year limited warranty

“Radial tire construction lessens severe wheel tracking and compaction while reducing overall drivetrain wear and tear,” said Brad Dunbar, aftermarket manager at Lindsay Corporation. “The rugged radial tire design also cuts maintenance costs by reducing problems in the field.”

"We've been really happy with them. We're saving time and not wrestling with stuck tires," Yoder said. "We have very little to no problems with stuck tires and I would definitely recommend them to other growers.”
