In an effort to make this calculator as simple and straight forward as possible several assumptions were made relative to the energy sources used to provide water to the irrigation system. This helps to form a logical impression of overall energy costs, without the need for labor intensive calculations or time consuming fact finding endeavors.
- An average of 1.18 hp/hr/kw was used to simplify power requirement calculations. This is an industry average number obtained from research performed on several power source, pump and electric motor configurations. Actual electric power consumption may vary.
- A calculation of 40% horsepower reduction was used when the corner leg of the pivot was turned off. This is an average of horsepower reduction for a 1300’ leg in a square field where the leg is only operational 30% of each rotation. Actual reduction may vary based on length and shape of field.
Percent Input Power
- Standard VFD and mechanical dampening power input tables were used. Amounts of power used calculated using these tables are estimates of power consumption only. Actual power reduction depends on specific configuration of your pump, pivot, and VFD.
